A photographic retrospective of The Ohio State University, Time and Change showcases the university's rich history and decades of growth, from its earliest years as the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College to the prominent land-grant institution it is today. The book includes more than 300 rarely seen photographs from the collections of University Archives and contemporary university photographers. In honor of our anniversary, 150 students received a scholarship as a part of the Sesquicentennial Student Scholar Leadership Program. During the academic year 2019-2020, these scholars will serve as ambassadors for the university and the sesquicentennial and participate in a Buckeye-focused leadership development program.

Too often, history is written from a single perspective. The Carmen Collection will cultivate an appreciation for, and understanding of, the many voices that shape its history. These stories — which are difficult to find or simply not well known — will be uncovered, shared and given their place in the university’s history and the collective consciousness of Buckeye Nation. The Carmen Collection will debut in fall 2019.

The award-winning team behind WOSU’s “Columbus Neighborhoods” series will produce a 6-part mini-documentary series, Our Stories, Our Future, highlighting the depth and breadth of the university. Topics include land-grant heritage, physical campus, student experience, citizenship, international reach, teaching and learning, service and tradition.

As part of the sesquicentennial celebration, we will convene a series of academic summits, each with a distinct focus. These thought-provoking, day-long gatherings of practitioners, experts, leaders and advocates will address the topics of teaching and learning, the role of urban-serving universities and the evolving 21st century land-grant university.

But university life also binds each generation together with traditions, orientations, commencement, classes, campus living, and activities that make up the web of a student’s life. Scarlet and Gray: The Student Experience, a free exhibition pulled from the University Archives, celebrates the shared past that exemplifies The Ohio State University’s memorable history. The exhibit includes artifacts highlighting fascinating and everyday moments of student life on campus.
